Our Name & Logo
What’s In a Name?
The name of our church is significant to us for the simple (yet incomprehensible) fact that it points to God being in absolute authority of all things, including any and all good events that occur in our lives.
- Sovereign: A word which highlights God’s authority and free will to work all things according to the counsel of His good and perfect will and for His glory.
- Grace: This speaks of the undeserved favor of God by which He saves from wrath all who trust in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
- Church: A single word that indicates a group of people who have accepted the saving grace of Jesus Christ’s gospel and have committed to share their experience of God’s grace with one another in caring and meaningful relationships.
Sovereign + Grace + Church =
When we put these words together, we are talking about a grace that conquers everything in its path. How? Because it is a grace that has the power of the absolute sovereign King of the universe. It is a reigning grace, a grace that is more powerful than the bondage of sin! So, when we say the words sovereign grace church, we are talking about a group of people who recognize that they have been saved from an earned eternal death because the Absolute of authority in the universe (God) in HIS own free will loved us enough, and was pleased to extend to those He has called, the only life saving gift that nobody could ever deserve or earn, grace.
Our Logo
More than just a cool random design, each part was intentionally designed to represent something we felt important to communicate.
- Sovereign Grace Font: The words Sovereign Grace are in a handwriting font. This is to demonstrate that God is a living Being, and it was/is/ will continue to be God’s personal hand on our lives that sustains us. God is not a “thing” or a system to be figured out. God is the Ultimate Living Being of the universe Who personally reaches down and touches the lives of the individual people He has saved.
- Church Font: The word CHURCH is designed in a bold font and in all caps. This demonstrates that because God has saved, and will be coming back for, the church there is “no power of hell, no scheme of man” that could ever destroy her. The font size is purposefully smaller than that of Sovereign Grace to demonstrate that the Church, while saved for God, will always be smaller than God and never bigger than His grace.
- Crown of Thorns: While kings on earth have crowns made of gold and the finest jewels that the earth has hosted, the crown of God the Son, Jesus Christ, was that of sharp sticks. These sharp sticks were pushed into His head causing the skin to crack and His blood to pour. The crown is positioned the way it would be on the head of our King. Earthly kings have crowns that are richly expensive and fit snug on their heads. Our King’s crown is dangerously rich in that it pricked His head and led to the pouring of His blood.
- Blood Drip: On the tip of the crown there is a single blood drip. The blood that dripped from the Body of Christ is the blood we need, and He gave, so that we might live. His blood that dripped from His body was the grace that was poured to save the souls of sinners.
- Red Font: God’s Sovereign Grace was extended to us through the blood of Jesus. May we never forget that His blood is what washed away our sin and birthed our souls!
